Driving While Your License Is Suspended? Here’s What You Need To Know

Offences related to Driving can take several forms. One of those forms is where one drives when his/her driving license is suspended. Driving with a suspended license is an offence in Ontario and one can be convicted for it.

What Is A Suspended License?

Suspension of license means when an individual is temporarily banned to drive or operate any vehicle. Suspension of license is a temporary disqualification from driving.

The duration of suspension is conditional on the type of violation that has been caused. Penalties For Driving With A Suspended license

As per the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario, there are three possible consequences if you drive with a suspended license:

  1. You could be liable to pay a fine of $1000 to $5000
  2. You may face jail time of up to 6 months
  3. You may face further license suspension

Reasons For Suspension Of A Driving License

There are a couple of reasons for which your driving license could be suspended and you could be temporarily disqualified from driving. These reasons could include:

  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Neglected to pay fine or traffic tickets
  • Failure of not stopping when signaled by police
  • Charged for any other driving offence
  • Accumulation of demerit points
  • Careless driving
  • Medical Reasons making you unfit to drive
